ALLEMAGNE / GRANDE – BRETAGNE
Just sensations: water, cold against the skin, the black veil of silence draping the model, alone, immersed in aqueous liquid, almost thick in the semi-darkness. The photographer celebrates the summer days of the German childhood and recalls her evening swims. She remembers, her body still enraptured by the day’s heat, walking into cool water, deeper and deeper, to reach oblivion: the forest surrounding the lake, nearby swimmers, all disappear in a cottony nothing, under the water’s shiny surface. Nothing is left but herself. Until she emerges again and breaks the silence, her reflection a flaw, vibrating on he water.
Esther Teichmann lives and works in London. She studies photography at The Royal College of Art while developing her personal work. She has been a contributor to Attitude Magazine, Dazed & Confused and The Guardian Weekend. In 2003, she was involved in the founding of Photodebut, a young photographers association.
