10.04.08 Esther Teichmann, 'BLIMEY!: New Photography in Britain ', Art Review, May 2008

If you want to acquaint yourself with the latest crop of photography talent from the UK, look no further than In Our World: New photography in Britain. Produced jointly by Galleria Civica di Modena and the Royal College of Art, London, the show – which opens this month in Modena – celebrates research work by photographers who attended the RCA’s photography masters course in the last ten years.

Now widely regarded as one of Europe’s foremost photography courses, the Photography Masters has nurtured the careers of ascendant photographers including Becky Beasley and Sarah Pickering, both of whom have work on show. By flapping up the course’s importance, the organisers suggest In our World marks a shift in the paradigm and certainly, the work on show is not confined to static imagery, taking in video and film as much as traditional stills. Sophy Rickett, for example, is showing the film Auditorium, while Kirk Palmer is presenting a series of videos. Other highlights include Esther Teichmann’s intense, psychologically rich C-types of her family and Anne Hardy’s images of constructed, yet empty, environments. LA
