Gallery artist Michael Whittle has been awarded a Monbusho Scholarship by the Japanese Government.

The Monbusho (Ministry of Education, Science, Sports and Culture, Government of Japan) offers scholarships to foreign students who wish to study at Japanese universities, funding two years of research, with the possibility of extending to a PhD.

Whittle was recommended for the award by the Japanese Embassy in London. From April 2010, he will be working with Professor Nakahashi at Kyoto City University of the Arts, (KCUA) in Kyoto.
